POWER FOR A NEW BEGINNING

Whenever God wants to do a new thing in the life of a
man, He puts a desire in that man so that He or she
can long for it or in the alternative, He speaks to
the person before the evenst will unfold.
In 2 kings 2:9-10, the Bible says, “When they had
crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, tell me what I can do
for you before I am taken from you. Let me inherit a
double portion of your spirit Elisha replied. You have
asked a difficult thing Elijah said, yet if you see me
when I am taken from you, it will be yours-otherwise
not!
Year in year out God’s desire or wish is to do a new
thing in our lives, home, family, ministry, career or
business or academics. But for God to begin a new
thing, there must be a follow through with God to get
prepared before the new thing begins to spring forth.
New things need fresh enduement of power from on high.
Elisha desired a new beginning, a new walk, so he
asked his master for a double portion of his spirit
which, Elijah said was a difficult thing to do because
he himself did not have a double portion but he gave a
condition to Elisha that if only he will see God as He
came to take him, then it will be his. We thank God
because the God of Elijah is your God whose resources,
anointing or spirit is unlimited. We pray that the
power for a new thing will be released to you in this
year of open door and breakthrough. We want to
consider the things that must be put in place for new
things to happen in your life.
You must have agreat desire, a dogged and rugged
determination for a new thing. Elisha had a great
desire for the double portion of the anointing of God
in Elijah and so he had his hearts desire. The Bible
says the desire and expectation of the righteous shall
not be cut-off. As a child of God, if your motive
behind any desire or expectation is pure aor right,
God will surely guide you into receiving your hearts
desire.
Avoid distractions on your ways to receiving the new
things. There were distractions from the other sons of
the prophets{(Elisha’s colleagues and even Elijah), 2
Kgs 3:3-7}. The sons of the prophets wanted to
distract Elisha through authority to keep Elisha away
or behind but he vehemently resisted Your eyes of
understanding must be enlightened. You must be able to
see into the realm of the spirit. Your breakthrough is
connected to your insight into the realm of the
spirit. Insight is very important into doing doing new
things that is why Paul prayed for the Ephesian
believers that the eyes of their heart may be
enlightened in order that you may behold the hope to
which he has called you, the riches of His glorious
inheritance in the saints. This prayer is very
important for you today as it was for the Ephesian
believers. When God opens your eyes to see what he has
prepared for you to possess, it increases your zeal to
pursue such things.
God told Jeremiah, I will perform my word because you
have seen what I have shown you correctly. The word of
the Lord came to me, what do you see Jeremiah. “I see
the branch of an almond tree,” I replied. The Lord
said to me, “ you have seen correctly, for I am
watching to see that my word is fulfilled (Jeremiah
1:11-12). There is no performance of God’s word until
you see what God has prepared for you.
For a new thing to happen, the old must give way.
Jesus Christ said, you must not put a new wine into an
old wineskin will burst and spill the new wine, the
loss will be great. In Isaiah 43:18-19, the Bible
says, “forget the former things, do not dwell on the
past. See I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up.
Do you not perceive it. I am making a way in the
desert and streams in the wastelands.
Immediately Elisha received the mantle power for a
new beginning, the first thing he did at the bank of
Jordan was to tear his old garment. He put the past
behind him and put on his new mantle that he received
from Elijah.
God will want you to act with the mantle of authority
and power of God in your life and in your hand. Faith
without works is dead. As you pray for power for a new
beginning, launch out to do something new which you
have never done before.
Your utilization of the God given authority and power
will take you or cross you over to the next stage of
your life. The power of God acted on in faith will
make you cross over every obstacle to your unlimited
greatness. As soon as Elisha received the power and
crossed over to the other side of Jordan, suddenly his
former coilleagues realized that he had been elevated
and promoted. The company of prophets from Jericho who
were watching said, “the spirit of Elijah is resting
on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed to the
ground before him. “look they said, we your servants
have fifty able men” (2 Kgs 2:15-16a).
When you receive the power of God into your life, a
new beginning suddenly your peers or contemporaries
will become your servants. I see the power of God come
into your life to begin a new work that will lift you
up above your fellows and peers in Jesus name.
Hebrews 1:9 has this to say, “you have loved
righteousness and hated wickedness (mediocrity).
Therefore God, your God has set you above your
companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. Love
god, His Kingdom and righteousness and tremendous
power from on high will be released to you to do what
eyes have never seen, what eras have never heard and
what has never occurred to the hearts of men before
now. Great wonders await you. Hunger and thirst after
God and His power.
